Sue Lawrence-Reeder
While not formally trained in either watercolor or photography, I was introduced to watercolor through my mother who was a fashion illustrator and watercolorist. I've had a lifelong love of the visual arts and currently own a digital media production company which is the parent company of SLRdigitalART. from which these Gallery Photos have been selected.
Traveling throughout the world over the last 3 years, I have taken my still camera with me to capture visuals for my stock footage library to use in our production work. With a vast collection of photos just sitting in my computer, I decided to combine my two loves of watercolor and great images---allowing me to create pictures that are a blend of both digital photo technology and an artistic touch of a "brush".
Whereas the digital world has revolutionized the production business in the way we capture and edit images, I find its sharp and crisp definition of still images incongruous with the way I experience much of Europe--especially France. My memories bring home images and fragrances which are soft and subtle---conjuring up reflections of the soft colors and delicious aromas of Provence. In contrast, instead of a tapestry of warm tones, delicate patterns and textures---the digital still photos almost crackle in their sharp rendering which, to me, is too harsh in its representation of such beauty, antiquity and elegance. I use the photographs as my starting point from which I rework the images with "watercolor" impressions allowing me to input the other senses that complete my experience of each capture.
