Lawrence Pratt
As a hobbyist travel writer, in 2001, Lawrence (just call him Larry) became aware of the need for higher-end photo work as his portfolio of travel articles expanded and the old Sears point and shoot 35mm was proving to be completely inadequate. With better photos to support his writing, photography soon took on a level of importance all its own. After borrowing his son's manual Pentax for a few months and achieving some positive results, our intrepid photographer made the move to his own Nikon 65 35mm SLR auto-focus camera. The microchip quickly proved to have better vision than the artist's aging eyes and the manual focus option was largely retired. The majority of the displayed works use either the standard 28-80mm lens or, less frequently, the 70-300mm telephoto.
The macro lens spends most of its time waiting in the wings and gets very little use. Larry's photo work has continued to support his travel writing and he's also enjoyed some independent commercial and judged contest successes as well. In 2006 his 'Mendocino Moon' was selected by Kennedy Promotions as one of California's best photo pieces.
Larry's primary areas of photographic interests are florals, seascapes, and waterfalls with the occasional landscape thrown in. If you like what you see here, he'd appreciate referrals to friends and family. All images: Nikon 65 SLR auto-focus; standard 28-80mm lens or, less frequently, the 70-300mm telephoto; frequent tripod use for timed exposures; occasional use of a polarizer filter; all natural lighting.
